Day 4- The Title Tag and First Impressions

The title tag is the introduction to your web site.  When a client (search engine) walks through the door for the first time, you want to say the right thing.  Want to know my thoughts about web site first impressions?  I wrote an article about this in May 2008: From Geek to Chic- The Soap Opera of the Internet.

Our Research team has determined that the web site’s target audience is small business owners, looking for advice on how to grow their business…affordably.  Studies of Google’s average search traffic has shown enormous value and steady volume growth; for this market.

Considering this, we have changed the title tag to

<head>
<title>Small Business Advice- We help grow your small business</title>
</head>

In terms of targeting our audience and search terms; this tag addresses both.  As well, it is consistent with the services provided, and the desired corporate image.

As with any introduction, you don’t want to take to long.  Be brief and descriptive.  If your audience wants to know more, they will ask.  A general rule for title tag length is sixty (60) characters.

If you say anymore than that; then you have said too much. <— This sentence is fifty-eight (58) characters.

Before I put this tag up, how is my breath?
