COLUMBUS — Federated Church, 2704 15th St., will hold a gigantic garage and bake sale from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

There will be five rooms of toys, books, clothing, furniture, household items, small appliances, estate items and baked goods.

Special pricing of $3 per bag will run from 3-4 p.m. Large items not fitting in bags will be half price.

Weekend retreat at St. Benedict Center

SCHUYLER — A weekend retreat “Living Mindfully Through the Hours of the Day,” will be held Sept. 7–8 at Saint Benedict Center in Schuyler.

Well-known spiritual author Sister Macrina Wiederkehr, OSB, from Fort Smith, Ark., will guide participants as they practice the habit of contemplative listening. In the heart of their busy workday, they will be encouraged to pause and breathe in the spirit of each hour.

Those attending will be doing Lectio with the hours of the day, with scripture and creation.

The retreat begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7.

One-day retreat scheduled Sept. 15

SCHUYLER — “Contemplative Photography,” a one-day retreat with Rita Otis, will be held beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 15 at Saint Benedict Center.

Taking photos is not a matter of capturing an image as much as it is answering an invitation. Contemplative photography is the act of slowing down, recognizing the invitation of the moment, and honoring that invitation with a camera.

Participants will use their own camera and laptop for this class.

The program fee is $30. Lunch is available at the center for $9.76 including tax.

Knights to host Cornhusker party

COLUMBUS — A Nebraska Cornhusker party, hosted by St. Anthony’s Knights of Columbus Council 9264, is scheduled for Saturday, October 6 during the Nebraska-Ohio State game.

The party will be at the St. Anthony Social Hall, 1719 Sixth St. Doors will open at 6 p.m., one hour before the 7 p.m. kickoff.

Cash and prize drawings will take place after each score, and two big flat screen TVs also will be given away. All the food you can eat will be available; those attending are asked to bring their own beverages.

Proceeds from the event will be used for youth activities and the council’s seminarian fund.

Public asked to pray for nation, elections

COLUMBUS — Local National Day of Prayer members are asking the public to continue to pray for the nation and for the elections at noon and 6 p.m. daily during Columbus Days.

Worship services at Grace Episcopal

COLUMBUS — Grace Episcopal Church, 2053 23rd Ave., will host informal worship services at 5:30 p.m. each Wednesday.

The informal Service of Holy Eucharist will take place around a table in the church’s Parish Hall.

The public is welcome to attend.
