why you need a little velvet dress this season

Be prepared for some inappropriate stroking from strangers this winter – velvet, that most touchable of fabrics, is back in fashion.

A velvet dress by Zaraphoto: celebrity dresses

There are many versions of velvet you might want to expunge from your mind at this point: Judy Dench in something from Hampstead Bazaar, say; the woman in the Scottish Widows adverts; Shirley Temple in The Little Princess. Velvet now isn’t arty, grand or princessy. It’s just chic.

Look to the Christopher Kane catwalk. The headlines for the London fashion week designer’s autumn/winter collection were all about blush-worthy lace, but the velvet pieces had a glamour beyond what’s only really appropriate for FKA Twigs and friends. See dresses of shot velvet with the swoosh of silk and a velvet trouser suit that caused fashion editors to collectively swoon.

If last year it was all about velvet tailoring, it’s the LVD – the Little Velvet Dress – that you want to pay attention to now. Kane’s examples were supplemented by slouchy black ones at Chloé and ornate devoré at Givenchy, and Galliano’s Margiela had 30s-style frocks, which made even the mardy arm-crossed models look a bit elegant. That’s the thing about velvet. It’s quite grown-up on the whole, and that’s something to be celebrated in a world full of emojis, cat Instagram accounts and dungarees. See Julianne Moore in floor-length velvet on the arm of Kristen Stewart in a velvet suit at Chanel’s couture show (above) in July to get the idea. Double velvet wins.

To get some of that novel thing called sophistication into your wardrobe, the high street has picked up on the trend with pleasing variety. Zara’s black midi dress with art nouveau-ish devoré patterns looks like something Vanessa Bell might wear for a drawing room supper, while Reiss’s midnight blue body-con number is quite Jamie Lee Curtis in Scream Queens at a campus do. H&M and New Look provide crushed options for those who want to channel Sandra Bullock in the 90sbut, really, this is one trend where it’s OK to play safe. A simple black velvet dress is route one party dressing in 2015, but there’s no denying it works. Avoid the stroking and you’ll be winning in no time.

Back at his “second home” Rylan spoke about his nuptials with Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield.

Rylan, 27, who wed Dan Neal on November 7 in front of family and friends, said he decided against selling the pictures.

We could have put them in a magazine and we thought about it at a certain point but thought ‘do you know what let’s come on here’. It’s like my second home.

“Half our family haven’t even seen these yet, so I hope they’re watching!”

Snaps included a very happy looking Eamonn Holmes shooting selfies alongside Katie Price and Claire Richards, as well as the full wedding party in all their fancy threads.

After getting congratulations from Holly and Phil , Rylan shared how he nearly didn’t have a wedding outfit to wear.

“It was so lovely. But we left our outfits right until the last minute. It was the one thing that we forgot to do and this amazing company, Rob and Abigail at the Grooms Room, made our outfits in two weeks.

“I drew up what I wanted and literally couldn’t thank them enough. They look fantastic. We had the best day and our family and friends were just amazing, and it was so nice that we managed to keep things as private as we did.”

Rylan and Dan were pictured heading off on their honeymoon just a week after their big day.

The CBBBOTS host was ready and raring to get back to his day job as he shared the showbiz gossip from over the weekend.

Their wedding was a seriously star-studded affair with A-list guests including Katie Price, Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Langsford, and Matt and Emma Willis descending on Essex for the do.

Steps singer Claire Richards, who met Rylan when they took part in Celebrity Big Brother back in 2013, reportedly acted as a bridesmaid.

He met Rylan in 2013, when he appeared on the 14th series of Big Brother.

Tourist weddings create multiplier effect on Guam jobs

It’s a formula for Guam-bound destination weddings.

The bride and groom exchange their vows in a “chapel” that wasn’t necessarily built for religious purposes, but more to take full advantage of the seascape and unobstructed sunlight.

This niche market within Guam’s tourism industry generates multiple jobs.

The Watabe Guam Inc., dba Watabe Wedding, Luz de Amorphoto: marieaustralia

Florists, limousine drivers, musicians, food-and-beverage providers, hair and makeup stylists, photographers and event coordinators are needed at each of these weddings.

Even the officiating pastor is for hire.

The latest, newly built of these wedding chapels, lined up close to the shoreline in Tumon Bay, and called “Luz de Amor,” a nod to its “light and love” theme, is an investment of about $2 million by Watabe Wedding Corp.

Watabe now has four wedding chapels in Guam.

The new chapel’s elevation and design give wedding couples and their guests the ambiance of being right next to the beach.

Watabe Wedding brings in about 3,000 to 4,000 couples each year from Japan for their Guam weddings.

The company started its Guam business 20 years ago, and at a peak of Japanese travels overseas, the company brought 5,000 weddings a year to Guam.

The company has about 100 employees in Guam, and many more independent contractors provide the multitude of services needed to pull off a Watabe destination wedding.

Yoshie Nagasawa, Tokyo-based executive officer for Watabe Wedding’s overseas operation division, said Guam is an ideal destination for weddings and family vacations — for the Japanese market.

“This is the type of market for the whole family” to spend vacations in, Nagasawa said.

Nagasawa and another Tokyo-based Watabe Wedding representative, Masaki Nagamine, executive officer of the company’s domestic sales division, came to Guam for the opening of the new chapel.

When she first visited Guam earlier this year, Nagasawa said she was most impressed by the beauty of Guam’s beaches.

A publicly traded corporation, Watabe Wedding opened its Guam office in 1995, two years earlier than when it established a presence in Shanghai. Watabe’s overseas presence includes Hawaii, Bali, Singapore and Australia.

Lt. Gov. Ray Tenorio, who was a guest at Watabe’s chapel opening, said the tourism industry’s wedding sector helps to improve the quality of tourists who visit Guam.

“Guam is a very good destination,” Tenorio said, for tourist weddings.

Guam’s tourism industry as a whole has been increasing its focus on inviting “quality” tourists, Tenorio said, and investments such as Watabe Wedding’s help support Guam’s efforts.

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy wear matching dresses in Instagram pictures

Beyoncé and Blue Ivy were very stylish mother-daughter duo and wore matching ensembles over the weekend. The singer and her three-year-old daughter rocked white dresses at what appeared to look like a family party or wedding. The “Drunk in Love” hit maker took to Instagram and shared pictures from the party on Sunday.

The first picture shows Beyoncé dressed in a white wrap dress, holding her daughter. Her dress featured gold trim on the hemline and waist, with long sleeves and asymmetrical hemline. The dress was cinched at the waist and showed off Beyoncé’s slim waistline.

It also featured a plunging neckline. Beyoncé showed off her ample cleavage and curves in the for-fitting number. The singer paired her dress with metallic high heels.

Her blonde hair was styled in tumbling waves and left loose over her shoulders in a dep side part. Her flawless make-up consisted of bold red lipstick, black eyeliner and mascara.

Meanwhile, Blue Ivy looked adorable as she entered the venue holding her mother’s hand, in a full-skirted dress with tulle underneath. Her dress is by Mischka Aoki, E Online reports. She accessorised with a big white bow in her hair and flat metallic pumps.

The room appears to be ready for a wedding breakfast, with elegant table settings and chairs, Huffington Post reports. In another room, guests appear to be in full black-tie – as they congregate behind a curtain. However, Beyoncé gave no clues as to the identity of the bride and groom or the location of the celebrations.

The “Single Ladies” star shared an image earlier in the day as she was en-route to the event, which appeared to be taken in the rear of a car. She looked flawless in the picture which was a selfie. From the car window, high rise buildings and trees are seen, which may be New York.

The star shared one final picture from the function, in a room alongside fellow guests who appear to have not noticed the megastar in their presence.

Earlier in October, the 34-year-old singer celebrated Halloween with her rapper husband Jay Z and daughter with a Coming to America-themed Halloween costumes.

Queen Bey loves her family and shared pictures from the family trip to Florence during summer. She also posted pictures from her Fourth of July party, during which she took the time to teach Blue to swim.

Jennifer Aniston Already Cheating On Justin Theroux Months After Secret Wedding?

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux’s wedding happened in August, and already the former “Friends” star was rumored to be cheating with “The Leftovers” actor.

Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux

According to the National Enquirer, per Celebrity Dirty Laundry, Jennifer Aniston was allegedly all over David Beckham after meeting him when Victoria Beckham’s husband went into a business venture with Justin Theroux.

blasted Jen for practically drooling over David when they got together,” the alleged source claimed. “He was mortified that Jen acted like a lovestruck schoolgirl around David, feeling his muscles and raving about how handsome he is.”

But that’s not all. Justin Theroux reportedly saw Jennifer Aniston’s screensaver and it was of David Beckham wearing a speedo.

“The Leftovers” actor reportedly was angry at the double standard that his wife, Jennifer Aniston, would criticize him for checking out the other girls while she’s allowed to “drool all over David Beckham.”

Of course, at this point the rumor that Jennifer Aniston was cheating on Justin Theroux just months after their wedding remains just that.

And this is not the first time that Jennifer Aniston was accused of cheating.

The Star tabloid ran an article last August after allegedly talking to Matt LeBlanc’s dad, Paul, who claimed that Jennifer Aniston hooked up with her “Friends” co-star while still married to Brad Pitt.

Talking about his son, Paul alleged, “He had fun, that’s for sure. He even had a relationship with one of the girls…Jen. They would make out in the dressing rooms. He told me about it – it was when she was married to Brad Pitt.”

Aside from cheating, Jennifer Aniston was also rumored not only to be pregnant but was carrying twins with Justin Theroux.

OK! magazine , Jennifer Aniston reportedly got pregnant just days after the embryos were implanted into her by the IVF doctor.

“She told him that she had a special surprise. Then she showed him the test results. He was very emotional – he actually cried a little! Jen was so touched,” the article said.

Alumna starts business as seamstress and wedding coordinator

READING, Pa. — During the fall of 2009, while designing clothing in Rome as part of a fashion study-abroad program, Camrin Edwards had an epiphany.

“I was going to school for fashion design,” said Edwards. “My dream was to design wedding gowns.” Suddenly, she realized that all she wanted to do was “get back to working directly with brides.”

“I knew I wanted to work directly with brides instead of sitting at a desk designing clothes,” she said.

In spite of having only two semesters left to graduate with a fashion design degree from Philadelphia University, she returned home and applied for the business degree program at Penn State Berks.

In spring 2010, she began courses at Penn State Berks, where she heard about the entrepreneurship minor in one of her business classes and decided to enroll. “It was a hands-on program of only a handful of students,” Edwards said. “I really enjoyed being challenged in the program. I was asked to solve real problems and think outside of the box. We were also encouraged to research and pursue our own career goals. It was great to have a small group of my peers to bounce ideas off of.”

She graduated from Penn State Berks with a bachelor of science in business with a concentration in fashion design and a minor in entrepreneurship in 2012. Penn State Berks does not offer courses in fashion design but allowed Edwards to choose an individual option within the business degree and apply some of the credits she had earned at Philadelphia University.

Edwards always had an entrepreneurial spirit. While in high school, she started working at her hometown bridal shop in Pennsburg. She explains that the shop was always busy doing alterations for customers, but they could not handle the demand for alterations by anyone who did not purchase their gown from the shop.

“During one of my college breaks, I realized this was an opportunity to help these people,” said Edwards. “I began giving out my phone number and started doing alterations from my home. I was willing to work hard to earn extra money for school. I never realized it would end up being my career.”

In 2009, her family moved to the Reading area. She heard that Sweethearts Bridal was opening and contacted the owner to see if she had a seamstress. The store opened in fall of 2010, and Edwards has worked as an independent seamstress for the bridal shop ever since.

She was sometimes asked to accompany wedding parties to the church, and emergency situations would arise, from the bridesmaid who ripped her dress minutes before walking down the aisle to the mother of the bride who spilled cocoa butter down the front on her dress. Soon Edwards recognized another opportunity and Camrin Edwards, Seamstress & Wedding Coordinator was born.

Today, she offers a “stress-free service.” Her services include steaming the brides and bridesmaids dresses the day of the ceremony, helping everyone dress, and covering any emergency that happens before the wedding. If requested, she will also remain on-site until the start of the reception to coordinate details. The last thing she usually does is bustle the bride’s dress before sending her off to enjoy the party.

“My goal and my hope is that the word will spread about my stress-free service, and I look forward to having many more weekends filled with wedding coordinating. I absolutely love what I do, and I really can’t imagine doing anything else.”

Wedding planner wins lunch date with Hollywood actor George Clooney

A Scots wedding planner is “absolutely delighted” having won a date with her idol George Clooney.

Heather McGowan, from Glasgow, will join the Hollywood actor for lunch in Edinburgh on Thursday, after entering a charity competition in March.

Clooney agreed to take part in the fundraising effort to tie in with his visit to the Scottish Business Awards, where he will make a keynote speech about his own charity Not On Our Watch.

The competition organised by itison saw entrants pay £5 for a chance to win a meal with the 54-year-old star, known for his roles in Ocean’s Eleven, ER and The Monuments Men.

As the owner of a wedding events company, Ms McGowan, said she is particularly keen to discuss Clooney’s own wedding to lawyer and activist Amal Alamuddin.

The 32-year-old said: “I’m a big George Clooney fan and love the Oceans films so I’m absolutely delighted and still in a bit in shock.

“I’m looking forward to hearing about his involvement in Social Bite and the work of his charity, Not On Our Watch. And being in the wedding business, I’m also really interested to find out how involved he was in planning his wedding to Amal.”

photo:blue formal dresses

The actor’s visit was set up by Josh Littlejohn, who co-founded cafe chain Social Bite which employs homeless people in Edinburgh and Glasgow. He is also the founder of the Scottish Business Awards.

Social Bite operates a “suspended” coffee and food programme where customers can pay for a hot drink or food for a homeless person.

The organisation launched what is thought to be the first “selfless” loyalty card. It works by saving up loyalty points to buy a homeless person a free meal and hot drink after ten visits to the cafe.

Social Bite donates profits to charities and currently has cafes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen. A quarter of its workforce at its five shops is formerly homeless.

Mr Littlejohn said: “It’s incredibly exciting to be bringing one of the world’s biggest stars to Edinburgh and the team at Social Bite is buzzing ahead of his visit.

“For many of our team who until recently lived on the streets, this is a really amazing thing to look forward to.”

“Nightmare Before Christmas”-themed wedding more fun than frightening

Overcast skies didn’t dampen the spirits of Bobbi Eastman and Roger Pauley’s wedding guests last Saturday. In fact, you could say the somewhat gray afternoon actually complemented the couple’s “The Nightmare Before Christmas”-themed Halloween wedding at Knotty Pine Lodge in Fraziers Bottom.

“It was a very gloomy day, not a lot of light to work with, but it actually matched the theme of the wedding and turned out great,” said Holly Aldridge, owner of About to Snap Photography, who shot pictures of the event.

A match made

The relationship between Eastman, a nurse at Saint Francis Hospital, and Pauley, a retired contractor, began — as you might expect — in a somewhat unconventional setup.

“We met through his cousin and my maid of honor at Hooter’s in Kanawha City,” Eastman said.

They’ve been together ever since.

Pauley proposed at their home just more than a year later, on Aug. 14, 2014, a couple of weeks before their respective birthdays.

“He asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday,” Eastman said.

She was indifferent, but Pauley had his own idea.

“He said, ‘Well, I know what I want to do; I’m going to ask you to be my wife,’” Eastman said.

This is Eastman’s first marriage and Pauley’s second. Pauley has two kids, Seth and Sarah.

Making plans

Eastman and Pauley have been carefully preparing their fall ceremony for the last year.

“We figured out what date and other big things we wanted first,” Eastman said.

“Then, we just took our time, buying things when we had the money.”

Having the wedding on Halloween was Eastman’s idea, but Pauley has gone along with it from the start.

“He said, ‘Whatever you want to do is fine with me,’” Eastman said.

“We’ve done it all ourselves. It’s actually been a lot of fun doing this together.”

The couple gathered a lot of the seasonal decorations, like glitter pumpkins, plastic skeletons and creepy fabrics from holiday sales.

“We got a lot during this year and last Halloween,” Eastman said.

A ‘Nightmare’ of a theme

Once they had a date and began gathering smaller items, Eastman started thinking of ways to incorporate pieces of her favorite film, “The Nightmare Before Christmas,” including the main characters, Jack Skellington and Sally, into her big day.

“I even have a tattoo of them on my right forearm,” she said.

Naturally, that kind of devotion meant putting her own twist on the typical wedding details. Members of the bridal party, for example, were decked out in Jack Skellington tights with the customary pinstripes and round skeleton head, topped off with trademark black and white tennis shoes. As for the bride, Eastman donned Sally tights complete with the stitchmarks and custom “Nightmare Before Christmas” Converse shoes.

Eastman even found full-sized figures of Jack, Sally and Zero, created by Tiffany Steele of Tiffany’s Custom Creations, as well as a custom cake topper of the skeletal couple and, yes, the movie soundtrack to play at various points throughout the ceremony and reception.

Details, details

The bride did wear white — with scrolling red tattoo designs, which matched her own.

“I do have a lot of tattoos,” Eastman said.

And when they said “’til death do us part,” they meant it, symbolizing their love with rings that were carried in a coffin-shaped box.

“Their vows were Halloween-themed,” Aldridge said. “I caught myself listening instead of actually taking the pictures because I was so into hearing what was coming next.”

The reception was planned as an old-fashioned pig roast on Lodge grounds.

“We raised the pig ourselves,” Eastman said.

Music, played by the aptly named DJ Undertaker (who arrived in a hearse), ranged from John Fogerty’s “Joy of My Life” for the couple’s first dance to country classic “Mama Tried” (for the mother-son dance) and “Just Fishin’,” by Trace Adkins (for the father-daughter dance).

Guests were given useful black stadium cups that say “To love, laughter and happily ever after” with the bride and groom’s names and the date to commemorate the occasion.

“It was the most creative wedding I’ve ever done. It seemed like everyone there loved Halloween,” Aldridge said.

The Pauleys are expected to return from their honeymoon in Walt Disney World this weekend, and plan to reside in Griffithsville.

“We’re both big kids,” Eastman said, when asked about their plans.
