Todays quote is from the actor Anthony Hopkins, made most famous perhaps by his performance as Hannibal Lecter in the Silence of the Lambs trilogy:
“Life isn’t worth living if I miss an episode.”
~Anthony Hopkins~
That quote really struck a chord with me when it landed in my inbox the other day because it’s so true isn’t it? If we choose to bury our heads in the pillow and ignore life as it happens then we are liable to become depressed and too lethargic to notice the beauty around us and the opportunities that slip away un-noticed. If we let that happen, we really may start to think that life isn’t worth living.
Imagine those opportunities for new friendship, for unexpected moments of fun and laughter with friends and family for the simple pleasures that you’re allowing to pass you by - I’m not talking about opportunities for building your business even here, just the every day pleasantries that make the trying times easier to bear when they do happen by.
When life is getting you down and you feel yourself start to withdraw, (we all get those days occasionally, no matter how positive we are in our outlook), remember that everything that happens, happens for a reason. Look deeply at your reaction to whatever is beginning to get you down and find that little chink of light. Somehow if you look hard enough you will find one, and then hold onto it for all you’re worth and build on it. Let go of the darkness and hold on tight to that little chink of light until you can see the next one and the next so that the darkness starts to recede.
Don’t let yourself miss a single episode in the rich act of your life. Each experience helps to make us what we are, that’s why we change over time. We are blessed with the ability to move forward, to assimilate learning and to overcome pain and sorrow if we just have faith.
Sounds so simple doesn’t it? If only — no-one said it would be easy lol - just that it is worth it.
Success is about the journey rather than the destination so each of those life episodes is part of your success no matter how negative it felt at the time. Besides, if we didn’t have darkness we wouldn’t be able to appreciate the light. Next time that life is getting you down, focus on how good it’s going to feel when you catch that little ray of light, and how much more you will be able to appreciate it because of the trial you are experiencing at the time.
May you experience happiness, health and success in 2010 in return for reading this far
