Twitter Marketing Tips

TIP #1 - CHOOSING A GOOD TWITTER NAME

Before you dive right in and set up a Twitter account, stop to think about what you should choose for your Twitter name. This should be a simple task, right? For some it is as simple as following their niche; others are using Twitter as part of their Internet branding success and should remain strategic by selecting an applicable Twitter name. If yours is a personal Twitter, it still helps to make it “catchy”. :)

TIP #2 - SETTING UP YOUR ACCOUNT

Setting up your Twitter is fun and easy.  Just go to www.Twitter.com,  register for your account, start tweeting, invite friends and follow back. Getting started takes no time at all.  You can develop a following and a page full of tweets within minutes, but the worse thing is when someone comes to your Twitter page and the profile is incomplete. Not only does that person miss out on the exposure and traffic to their link, it wastes my time because I have gone to their Twitter page to learn more about them and the immediate is not there. One overlooked detail … Settings. Complete all of the information in the Settings area - especially your website link and bio - so that others know who you are. Contributes to developing a targeted following.

TIP #3 - HOW WILL YOU USE YOUR TWITTER

Will you use it as a social platform or broadcast tool. It would also be to your benefit to place keyword searches to determine how competitive your desired name is in the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN). Keep in mind that Twitter only permits up to 14 characters for this user name.

#4 - USING TWITTER TOOLS

Twitter tools are AWESOME. They provide flexibility, time and are just super convenient, though sometimes I read tweets stating they find them impersonal. I would suggest that you think about what you are typing into those immediate Twitter following or tweet later tools. They can make or break your campaign - attract or defer new followers. For example, some people find it rude when a new follower provides a link saying where to join them. Other would beg to differ that it is in good business and a better strategy than not providing a link. Some consider random “check this out” or business tweets as spam. Others are eager to receive them; they foster relations and partnerships. Learn your Twitter market. Respect those followers.
